College & Career Services

In partnership with parents, the New Braunfels Christian Academy faculty and staff seek to help students realize the plan God has for their lives. We recognize the importance of equipping students with the knowledge, tools and support they need to be successful in high school and beyond.

  • Academic Advising - The guidance counselor offers individualized course, graduation and college counseling to 8th grade and high school students, encouraging them to take challenging classes that fulfill Christian Academy and college requirements.
  • Testing - Students take standardized tests beginning with the PLAN in the freshman and sophomore years and the PSAT in their sophmore and junior years respectively. We recommend that all students take the College Board - SAT and/or ACT in their junior year – providing them the option to retake a test during their senior year for acceptance into the college or university of their choice.
  • College Selection and Application - Through various in-class seminars, individual counseling sessions and group meetings, parents and students are given information about colleges and the application process. College admissions representatives are brought on campus throughout the year. The Christian Academy also participates in the New Braunfels and Comal Independent School District joint college fair at Canyon High School in the fall.
  • Scholarship Search - Students are provided a list of national, state, local and university specific scholarships, and are given assistance in applying. Students and parents are welcome to visit or call with any questions or concerns.

College Visit Tips

Spring is an excellent time for sophomores and juniors to make college visits. Below are a few tips to make your search productive.

  • College websites are a wealth of information. Do read all you can about the schools you are considering.
  • Smaller colleges will probably arrange individual appointments and larger colleges will have set times for group tours and sessions.
  • Don’t show up on campus unannounced. Do call first for details or visit the college’s website in advance to identify appointment and tour information.
  • Remember the purpose of a site visit is for you to get information and a feeling for the college. Do prepare questions so you will be ready for your visit.

Class Ranking

New Braunfels Christian Academy is a non-ranking school, only reporting top 10% rank for Texas state schools. It is not equitable to compare students by rank in a small private school to those in a larger school. Therefore, for the purpose of college scholarships and applications, the following scale is being used:

4.0 Grading Scale

Honors & Pre-AP add 0.5 to the 4.0 scale

AP add 1.0 to the 4.0 scale                            .

4.0 and up             =              Top 10%

3.4 - 3.9                 =              First Quarter

2.8 - 3.3                 =              Second Quarter

2.0 - 2.7                 =              Third Quarter

1.9 and below      =              Fourth Quarter
